Mr Allan Jones
Allan Jones is a professional football coach who arrived in New Zealand in 1979 to take up the position of National Director of Coaching to the New Zealand Football Association. Prior to this date Allan successfully coached at Bristol City FC, Blyth Spartans FC and Darlington FC in England. In addition he had international experience as National Coach for the Bermuda Football Association and was a member of the national staff of The Football Association in England.
Having completed several contracts for the New Zealand Football Association as National Director of Coaching and National Coach to various national teams, and as the Technical Director for the FIFA Confederation of Oceania, Allan gained further international recognition through extensive coaching throughout the Middle East including Kuwait, Qatar, Dubai and Oman.
Allan returned to New Zealand, which is now his permanent home, in 2003 and coached the victorious Auckland City FC taking them to several National League titles and qualifying them for the 2006 World Club Championships held in Tokyo. Allan currently occupies his time in a consultative capacity with various factions in football throughout New Zealand and the world. Allan is a noted after dinner speaker, broadcaster, and has been published in both the written word and in video.
Allan is a Trustee of Macular Degeneration New Zealand and a member of the Steering Committee. Allan's involvement with MDNZ is a result of his wife having wet macular degeneration.
